What is Rally-O and who can participate?

Bringing owners and their dogs together... being active and having fun.  AKC and UKC Rally is the new dog sport that is taking the nation by storm. Rally is a successful stepping stone from basic obedience or the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility. Rally offers both the dogs and handlers an experience that is fun and energizing. The canine team moves at their own pace. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. Open to both purebred and mixed breeds over 4 months of age, Rally-O encourages the handler to communicate with their dog and form a working relationship based on precision plus fun.

What do my dog and I need for Rally-O?

Adults and children of all ages and skills have fun in Rally-O.  You set the pace for you and your dog.  Rally-O is a wonderful introduction to the sport of obedience for dogs and owners, and great practice for young dogs or an opportunity for veteran dogs to remain active. Purebred or mixed breeds are welcome and should be at least 4 months of age. Dogs and owners from the obedience classes or graduates from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program are welcome.

The dog and owner must be able to work together and perform "heel", "sit", "down", "stay", and "come" exercises.  The dog and handler work as a team navigating through a course with numbered signs. Each sign indicates an exercise to perform ranging from sit and stay, come when called, then swinging into heel position, dropping into a down in heel position, to turning a 360- degree circle, to turning a serpentine or figure 8, to asking your dog to go over

a jump, or drop on a hand signal. There is a start sign and a finish sign and the dog and owner work their way through the various exercises without direction from the judge within a designated period of time. In this class, you and your dog will practice the exercises step by step and form a great working bond. Great for practical training or to move on into competition, you and your dog will have fun.
